How it works — the Coanda effect

Rather than relying on extreme heat, the Airwrap i.d.™ harnesses an aerodynamic phenomenon called the Coanda effect. High-velocity airflow is directed so that it attaches to the surface of the barrel, automatically drawing hair around the attachment and curling it for you — no manual wrapping required. The result is shaped, styled hair created predominantly with air, not heat.

Intelligence built in — the i.d.

The “i.d.” is what sets this multi-styler apart. Connect the tool to the MyDyson™ app over Bluetooth and build a personalised hair profile based on your hair type, length and the look you want. The app then generates a personalised curling routine that guides you through each stage — wrapping, styling and cold shot — with on-screen timers, so you can recreate consistent results every time. Update your profile whenever your hair or your styling goals change.

Intelligent heat control

To help protect hair from heat damage, the Airwrap i.d.™ measures air temperature many times every second and regulates it in real time. This intelligent heat control helps keep the temperature below 150°C (302°F), so your hair’s natural shine and structure are protected while you style.

Powered by the Dyson digital motor V9

At the heart of the tool is the compact, lightweight Dyson digital motor V9. Spinning at up to 110,000rpm with a 13-blade impeller, it generates the high-pressure, high-velocity airflow of around 3.2kPa that makes Coanda styling possible — all from a motor small enough to sit in the handle.

Attachments tailored to your hair

The Airwrap i.d.™ comes with a curated set of attachments, with sets optimised for different hair types — one bundle tuned for Straight and Wavy hair, and another tuned for Curly and Coily hair.

Coanda smoothing dryer — dries hair fast and hides flyaways using focused airflow.
Airwrap barrels — use the Coanda effect to automatically wrap and curl hair; the conical shape lets you curl close to the root for fuller, bouncier results.
